Somatic Therapy

The somatic therapy that I practice is a model that has been influenced by my studies in Integrative Somatic Therapy Practice (ISTP™), Compassionate Inquiry™, acupressure massage (TCM), as well as my years of training and experience with restorative yoga, yoga nidra, breathwork (pranayama), sound therapy, and other bodywork modalities.

Somatics is a term that we hear more and more often as research continues to prove that we store memories, experience, emotions, and energy on a cellular level. This means that our bodies can continue to hold onto traumatic energy, even if we may think we're “over” something. Logically, we may be able to accept it and move on, but our bodies can remain stuck in that moment, re-experiencing the same trauma over and over again. Somatic work was developed to help people with PTSD, and other survivors of traumatic events, experience relief from their symptoms. Trauma-induced symptoms can include, but are by no means limited to, anxiety, intrusive memories, insomnia, dysregulated eating, nervous system hypervigilance, dissociation or a feeling of numbness, self-destructive behaviour, alcohol or substance dependence, extreme emotional reactions, and overwhelming grief or shame. Somatic therapy has been very effective in helping those who struggle with these symptoms, to help them finally find relief.

Somatic Therapy is helpful treating, but not limited to, the following symptoms and conditions:

  • PTSD & CPTSD

  • Sexual Assault and/or Intimate Partner Violence

  • Gender Dysphoria
